Gamla Uppsala

Heute haben wir einen Fahrradausflug nach Gamla Uppsala gemacht. "Gamla", bedeutet "alt", klingt komisch, ist aber so. Naja, und wie das mit alten Städten so ist, erzählen sie eine lange lange Geschichte: Und die der Hügelgräber Gamla-Uppsalas geht auf das 5.Jh zurück. Der Legende nach sind in dreien der vier Grabhügel die ersten Könige Schwedens bestattet. Ebenfalls erwähnenswert ist die Tatsache, dass zu grauen Vorzeiten, das baltische Meer oder zumindest ein Fjord an Alt-Uppsala grenzte. So erklärt sich auch der ursprüngliche Name des Ortes: "Aros" was soviel heißt wie Flussmündung. Heute ist das Meer verschwunden, nur der Fluss ist geblieben.
Ich glaube es ich wirklich gut, dass ich viele Ausflüge jetzt schon mache, bevor Schnee liegt, weil dann weis ich wie es zu beiden Jahreszeiten aussieht, ich bin schon ganz gespannt. So, Thema Schnee, sie haben heute die Heizungen angestellt.....und tatsächlich habe ich heute zum ersten mal meine Handschuhe gebraucht, Abends beim Radfahren nach der Uni, so ganz ohne Sonne ist es doch schon recht frisch hier!

Today we had a biketrip to Gamla-Uppsala. "Gamla" means "old", sounds funny, but that's it. As with all citys, they tell us a very, very long story: and the one of the gravemounds goes far back to the 5. century. Legend says that under three of four mounds the old kings of sweden are buried. Also very interesting is the fact that thousend years ago, the coast of the baltic sea was right on the outskirts of Gamla-Uppsala. Actually once the place of old Uppsala was called "Aros", which means mouth of a river. Today the sea has gone, but the river still exists in Uppsala.
